1. Give a small description about yourself (name, where you’re from, what you do)

I’m Michael Morgon - A fashion, and lifestyle influencer from Long Island, Ny.

2. What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion to me means what’s new, what’s hot, what’s on trend - something that is predicted, and changes/evolves from time to time.

3. What is your current style preference?

I love to be comfortable, and am not always dressed “over the top”. When I’m not working or doing a shoot, I’m in sweats, a sneaker or slip on, and most likely have my leather jacket on as well. This is an every day outfit that just works for me, and can still be considered “a look” simultaneously. Some call it, “athleisure”, but since I don’t typically work out or exercise, I call it my comfortable.

4. Who inspires your style?

I don’t really have a specific person in mind, but I do get a lot of my inspiration from bloggers/influencers in other countries. I love seeing how different fashion can be interpreted in other areas. It really inspires me to think outside of the box and maybe mix some of these ideas and create a style of my own.

5. When did you begin developing your own style?

Thinking back, I can say that I’ve always had my own sense of style. Yes it’s usually influenced by what’s in trend, and sometimes influenced by people or things I see, but I’ve always put my own little touch to it. I constantly ask myself, “How can I take this, and make it more me?”..

I’m the type of person, who can never choose one thing, because I want it all. One day I’m pretending to be a makeup artist, the next I’m making a wig, and then after that, I’m in my office sewing up a gown. This is me when picking a specific style, and I guess it can be described as being “versatile”. My style changes depending on my mood, the weather, an event, the specific crowd of people I’m around, or even my spending budget! Whether I’m feeling masculine in a 3 piece suit for a meeting, or feminine in a crop top to get ratchet at the club - my goal is to always master each style, and make it look as great as if it were my only one.

6. Where do you normally shop?

Well, nowadays, I sort of have to buy “for 2”.  This can get very costly, especially when trying to keep up with trends, or even splurge on designer pieces every so often. My shopping budget hasn’t really grown tremendously, so over the past few months I’ve really started focusing on shopping smarter, and not harder. Everyone that knows me, knows that I LOVE  Zara for everything, down to the shoes. It’s usually always my one stop shop when looking for something affordable, on trend, and of great quality for the price point I’m willing to pay. I believe heavily in investing your money in timeless pieces, while mixing your highs and lows to create a balanced look. So, for these timeless pieces, I love Neiman Marcus/Bergdorf Goodman and most definitely Barney’s during sale season!

7. Where do you normally shop online?

I typically don’t shop online for anything fashion related. I love the in-store brick and mortar experience, but I’m mostly always doing things last minute, and never usually have time to order.

8. What do you think your known for style wise?

One word, Versatility.

9. How did Mich come about?

I get this question very often, and it’s always fun answering it! Mich is an “alter ego”, so initially the feminine feeling was always inside, it just never had a name or image. Growing up, I had many female friends. I was always that GBF (Gay Best Friend) that would constantly preach about how women have it so much easier when it came to fashion, and if I were one I’d never have an excuse not to look good. My style, as Michael, was already extremely versatile. I had an idea a couple months back, to add another style to this versatility - one that was to be extremely more feminine than my usual. I can speak for most gay males and say that we’ve all done something to tap into our more feminine side. Some more extreme than others - whether it be getting a manicure, or trying a wig on for fun - this was my way of tapping into mine.

It all started off as an idea. I was looking for a way to be different, or stand out amongst every other influencer claiming to be unique. I’d never seen something like this done before, especially not the way I planned to execute it. Yes, men have been wearing wigs for comedic reasons for years. There’s Tyler Perry, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy, and a couple Instagram comedians out there but I wanted to be taken serious, and not as a joke.

I told a very select few of my friends, or people who I expected to show support to this idea, and to my surprise, I received NOTHING but negative feedback...and that’s ok! It set me back a few months because I truly did value their opinions, but then I realized - “Life is way too short to be living for other people, and I’ve finally decided this year to start living for myself”.

Halloween 2017 played a huge role in giving me the courage to actually go forth with this “idea”. I was overwhelmed by positive feedback on the 4 characters I chose to portray, and it gave me the confidence to finally create my own character, “Mich Morgon”.

10. Who inspires her style?

I’m extremely inspired by successful, African American females - most of them being actresses. Mich obviously doesn’t have a very feminine figure naturally, so I’m very inspired by women with more masculine physiques like, Teyana Taylor, or Angela Basset. These two give me the confidence to wear maybe a sleeveless dress, and not be insecure about my extremely toned arms. Lol

Mich’ style can be considered very “mature”, as some may say. If I were to describe her, I’d say she’d be a very successful 42 year old woman of power, similar to an Olivia Pope.  I didn’t want to go the “Fashionova”, or “Instagram model” route, so this style works in a way that’s not saturated, but can still be appreciated.

11. What piece are you dying to have in your closet?

I’ve been “dying” to get my hands on a good everyday bag. Anything croc embossed - like a Givenchy “horizon”, or Saint Laurent  “Sac de Jour”. Hint hint to anyone looking to get me a nice birthday gift!

12. What excites you about fashion?

Know that the pieces I’ve kept my entire life that I cannot seem to part with, will one day be back in style and wearable again. Also, being able to wear one piece, in many different ways to make it look new every time!

13. How important for you is it to stay on trend?

Not extremely important, but I do at least try to get my hands on a few on trend pieces each season without breaking the bank - especially if it’s a trend that’ll only last a few seconds.

14. What brand would you love to work with?

Without being too specific, I’d love to one day collaborate on a His/Hers or gender neutral collection with an apparel brand!

Color Theory With Aerin Creer

Have you ever struggled with planning an outfit? Staring into the closet with no ideas popping out or just not knowing what to piece together. Well, fashion model, Aerin Creer has come up with a plan to help you with planning outfits and it involves the Color Theory. So for those who don't know what Color Theory is, it is a set of principles used to create harmonious color combinations pleasing to the eye and senses. Now I came across Aerin's page from a fellow photographer's page and instantly fell in love with her style. I also recently featured her in a pervious post highlighting her streetstyle looks. So Aerin started making these posts on her Instagram page a few weeks ago. She picked out different outfits that would perfectly display the Color Theory and broke down why the pieces went together and also what aspects you should think about when planning different outfits. As Aerin states on one of her post, she is not a stylist just a creative who enjoys piecing things together and with her artistic background this comes easy to her and she does it subconsciously and she also encourages her followers to study the color theory and to start getting more creative with their outfits.
